Black is the new White

A few months back, I was given the great opportunity to collaborate...and by collaborate, I mean, just say, "Uh, Yes please!!!" to everything my friend Kristi from Kristi Lee Photography was coming up with for a styled shoot at the Peoria Civic Center.

She and Janice from Adore Bridal had decided to do a shoot of a BLACK WEDDING DRESS.
Yep, that's right...BLACK.

I have to be honest, I was a bit skeptical at first...that is, until I saw it and then I was like, "Shut up.  No seriously...like, SHUUUUUT UUUUP."

Both Kristi and I shot during this session...and if you'd like to see more images from her view...click HERE!

My one job was to find the model...and immediately, I knew I wanted my friend Sadie.  And to say she rocked it out doesn't touch it.  No, seriously...I think even I got sick of hearing myself say, "OH MY WORD!!!" 'cause I was literally dying...I'd gather myself together and then I'd die again.
The amazing flowers were from LeFleur on the Square
You gave me everything and more that I'd ask from you, Sades...just look at you.  Girl...seriously.
At the end of the evening we did a quick switch to what I kept calling the Audrey Hepburn look...
Okay. So as I was picking my jaw off the floor with how much I loved shooting the black dress, I was doing everything not to want to wear this one...I was giddy over how much I loved this dress...
Simple. Chic. Perfect.
It was the perfect combination of feminine, timeless, and fashion...love.

A HUGE thanks to:
Kristi for including me in this project and letting me shoot along side you!
Janice, you and Adore Bridal brought it...literally...with the dresses and styling!
LeFleur on the Square for you creative work with the florals you provided...such a fun pop to the shoot!
And a big thanks to my Sadie-lady who did such an amazing job showcasing the dresses and flowers for us!! You were amazing...times a thousand...and one. :)

Dinner at Sunset

I L.O.V.E.D. this...everything about it.  I loved shooting this type of photography...the people...the decoration...the location...and inspiration.

A couple weeks ago, I was honored to be able to shoot a dinner party hosted by a couple who were described to me by all their guests as being "extremely kind and so very generous".  They are known for being wonderful hosts, and I was giddy with being able to photograph such a beautiful evening!

This home was located on the lake, and I found it to be beautiful, inviting, and cozy...

I could have spent the whole evening just shooting details of the property...lovely. Yep, that's the word.

The yard backs right up to the lake, and the view was breathtaking, and the perfect place for this dinner.
The evening was catered and decorated by Limelight Catering...oh. my goodness.  They did an absolutely fabulous job, and their staff was so kind and great to work with!!  The food was seriously amazing...

The beach was beautiful...

The evening was inspired by the sunset...so the decorations, florals, herbs, food...were all inspired by the beautiful palate that the sunset provides.  It was exquisite.

I was in love with the chairs!! The details were perfect...each one adding to the feeling of the evening, but not overpowering.  I love subtle class.

There were herbs incorporated among the florals in the table scape...the rustic wooden planter boxed tied in the chairs so perfectly!

Even the food and the color was worked into the evening...I love details...and these were thought out so intentionally!

It tasted even better than it looked...if that's even possible!
I asked the bartender to mix a drink for me that captured the theme of the evening...he made this delicious mixture of orange juice, a little 7up, and a hint of grenadine.  I thought it was so pretty and tasted really great too!

The sun setting on the lake was the perfect backdrop to the sound of a live performer singing Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin melodies and the laughter of good friends.
A personal thanks to...
Martha for trusting me with the memories of the evening!
The "M" family for letting me capture the beauty of your time with friends and family.
Tracy for coming with me and shooting the dinner with me!!
Limelight for catering this amazing evening...your work is absolute perfection.
and a HUGE thanks to Emilia for giving me this opportunity.  It was not lost on me for a moment that it was because of your generosity that I got this great experience!!

Beauty in Brokeness

A few months back, my friend, Lisa and I started talking about this idea she had for a styled shoot.  Lisa is a hairstylist from Indiana, and she had this idea of wanting to do a shoot showcasing a couple hairstyles by using the theme "Beauty in Brokeness".  The idea was inspired from the idea that God can make beauty out of what people consider broken.  She used broken tea cups and vintage clothes to build on to style this mini shoot...

Lisa, working her magic...
Erica was great enough to jump in and style and do makeup at the very last minute! Thanks so much, Erica!
The girls were wearing all vintage clothes and jewelry that Lisa's mom had either had in the attic or found...

The inspiration here was the combination of perfectly sculpted combined with a more funky curl...representing beauty + broken...
Can I just say, these models were high school students that Lisa knew, and they rocked it out for me!!

Thanks so much to Lisa, Raquel, Adama, & Erica!!
