Soups and Family Night

If you were to ask me on any given Monday night, where was I going, I'd say, "Family Night".  Trust me, you don't miss family night...because Rika, Rebekah, and Heidi know how to put a meal together.  I tend to resemble a chubby little 5 year old boy on a playground bragging about his daddy's capability to beat up your daddy, when it comes to talking about how these ladies can cook. I'm all, "My sistas and step-momma can cook as good as Wolfgang Puck, Rick Bayless, or Gordan Ramsey!"

On a side note: I'm afraid chefs are celebrities to me.  In my world, they're pretty awesome.  I plead the "weird homeschooler" label on this one. :) Oh snap!

Well.  Usually when these chubby little 5 years olds are hiding behind their dad's muscles, it's because they're lacking some of their own.  That would be true in my case.  It's not that my food is inedible...I just describe it as tasting like leftovers the first time you eat it.  I'm not sure when these Inoue ladies became so domestic, but it was probably around the time that I had my nose in some techy-electronic device.  Well, that's all fine and good until it comes to Monday nights.  I rarely host family nights...it was because I was working 3rd shift and had to sleep during the day.  Not so much anymore.
So, tonight, Leah and I are hosting.

Let me give you a picture of how a normal Monday afternoon conversations goes:

Me: Hey Heidi, what are you making tonight for Family Night?
Heidi: I'm not sure. I haven't decided. You can bring a salad.
Me: Okay.

Let me give you a picture of how the conversation went on

Friday (last week):
Me: Okay, so Leah and I are trying to figure out what we're going to make for Family Night and we were thinking soup.  But I wasn't sure if the guys like soup, or if you thought that would be a good idea, or what kind of soup we should make?
Heidi: Yeah, I'm sure the guys will be fine with soup.  Oh, I could give you a recipe for bread bowls 'cause that would be fun and it's cheap!
Me: (hesitant) Okay...um, sure. How do you make them. (Which lead into a long conversation on how to make bread bowls).

Saturday:
Me (on the phone with Heidi): Okay, so I'm here in the grocery store.  What kind of dough would you buy? I don't want it to get too soggy, but I don't want it to be too hard.  What was that brand you mentioned? How would your form these? How would you cut the tops off? I'm going to make Cheese Beer soup...do you think that sounds good?
Heidi proceeds to give me advice on everything I ask.

Sunday (in church):
Me: So, Heidi, can you act out with your hands how you would shape the bread bowls?
Heidi proceeds to humor this poor girl and demonstrates how she'd roll the dough into a ball.

Today:

Leah's Chili...

My soup so far...

You didn't know the whole point to the post is so I could put off making my soup by blogging about it, did you?! Ugh. Wish me luck.

you silly girl! i think you are being too hard on yourself. if it makes you feel any better, I would have absolutely no idea how to make bread bowls either. and i think the cooking gene passed right over me too:) mom was a great cook who didnt need recipes at all, and I cant cook a meal without ALOT of guidance. although I must be honest, Leahs soup looks a little more yummy than yours:) good luck and you will have to let me know how it goes. would love to see you sometime soon. maybe coffee? i promise i wont make you cook for me! sunita
