Foolish moments

Sometimes I invest in foolish moments...you know those moments.  The ones where you spend time looking at "Who wore it best" to the Oscars, or looking for the cheapest tickets for a trip I'll never take, re-looking at all the Christmas card pictures I got, or plucking my eyebrows 'til one is noticably thinner than the other.  Please tell me you've done that.

This past Sunday, after putting my nieces and nephews to bed while babysitting, all I was thinking about were the e-mails I had to answer and going to bed in decent time.  But as I was walking out of my nephews' room, I heard one of them crying.  Ugh...really? Why tonight? He was saying he was scared, but I knew he just wanted to stay up.

Normally, I would have just assured him he was fine and let him fall asleep.  But something stopped me in the hallway.  A thought.  I suddenly thought, "The e-mails can wait.  It's not going to be that much longer that he's going to choose you over sleep".  I'm an aunt...I have the luxury of bending rules and being irresponsible.

I found myself laying between their two beds, staring up at the galaxy lights he'd gotten for Christmas.  We wished on ceiling stars.  I wished for a trip to Ireland...or a chance to meet Hugh Jackman.  Either one will do. :)  J wished to play my Wii (he's subtle like that), and G said, "Yeah" to wishes I'd make up for him.  Ones like, "Do you wish Aunt Tami will always be your best friend?" "Yeah" "Do you wish that when Aunt Tami is old and crusty that she could live with you?" "Yeah"...Thanks buddy. I'll remind you of that one in 50 years...
I showed them how you can take pictures in the dark which result in really unflattering pictures...we groaned loudly eachtime the flash blinded us...

I asked J to tell me a secret...so he told me about his love for the Wii.  We laughed too loud and stayed up too late.

Yeah, sometimes I invest in foolish moments...but Sunday night wasn't one of them.
