I got a priceless gift for this Mother's Day this year...I can't even begin to tell you how completely overwhelmed my heart felt when I got it. I was organizing my room when I found a scrapbook my family had made me when I graduated high school. In this album, I found a letter from my dad and one from my mom. I had forgotten about these letters. I've been missing her so much lately, and as I poured over this letter and soaked in every single word, I was in tears. Reading it was like getting to talk to her again...just what I needed...and I wanted to share it here with all of you.
Tami,
My heart is brimming with memories, emotions, and prayers. Today is the culmination of your basic schooling and even though we gladly celebrate this milestone today with your many friends and relatives, in reality you are on the threshold of life.
We know that anything of great significance or influence must be established on the firm foundation of Truth. Your life has been grounded in Truth, for which we're always grateful. I have attempted to teach you that Jesus and God's Word are the rock for you to build life upon. His principles will enrich your life and stabilize each decision, His Word will guide you in all righteousness. We have hoped that you would be willing to let God use you as a leader for your generation. You will face persecution - don't fear it. Be confident that your Father's desire is to have your vessel pure untarnished by self and the world, that He may pour His love through you to those He would. Do not assume that you understand how He will do His will in your life, but remain open to His call. Give yourself completely to it.
I've always been humbled by your example of quick forgiveness. You also never give up on things or persons thought hopeless. It's a strong attribute that God will surely bless in the world without hope and light. As you defend the poor and fatherless, I urge you, "Wherever you are be all there! Live to the hilt every situation you believe to be the will of God!" - Jim Elliot.
Mom
I hope you all have a WONDERFUL weekend celebrating Mothers.

wow. this is priceless! so special!!
Tam, this is so special!!!! As I was reading it, it seemed so amazing how a mother knows her child SO well...especially how well she knew us. As a high schooler reading this, it seems nice...but as a grown woman knowing what you have been through and what more could lie ahead, it seems so perfectly fit for you and who you are...every sentence.
Love you too!
I am so thankful that you found this...I would say it is a love note from God wouldn't you? I was just thinking about you this morning and feeling so bad about mothers' day. i was wishing you could be with someone that felt like a mom. This was so much better!
man, it makes me miss her more than ever...sometimes I forget how she set the bar so high but with so much love and confidence in us at the same time. Like Heidi said, it was perfectly written for you.
Thanks for sharing it with all of us.
Such a beautiful letter and an absolute treasure to find. I'm in awe at God's perfect timing....
Wow, what wonderful words. Your mother must have been a wise woman!

Thanks for sharing that Tami! Your Mom did set the bar high for you girls and for herself. She was so wise and as her friend I learned a lot from her. I am sure you miss her greatly and I do also.
Love you! Marcia

Tam, thanks for sharing this with us. I have been missing her so much lately, too. She was so mighty in spirit! I am so happy you found this letter - a hug from the Lord, for sure.
Love,
Camren
